I-5 Southbound at DuPont Reopening


Two lanes of SB I-5 in DuPont will reopen at about 5 p.m. The speed limit will be 45 mph for safety. The right lane will stay closed for further repairs & we hope to reopen by Thursday AM. Please be cautious once it opens.

About the Incident

At approximately 7:40am Amtrak #501 derailed on the Mounts Road overpass over Interstate 5 (I-5). The train had 14 cars with 13 cars derailed off the tracks with a portion of the train on the southbound lanes of I-5 pinning some vehicles underneath it. This is a multiple jurisdiction incident involving Sound Transit, Amtrak, Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Washington State Patrol (WSP).

WSDOT has reported that Southbound I-5 will be closed for multiple days.
