Purchased by Pierce County Parks in 2006, through the Conservation Futures program, Meridian Habitat Park includes approximately 36 acres located in the South Hill area. The property was originally developed as a church and includes the former church building, a caretaker’s home, a pond, and the locally famous "Puyallup Amphitheater".
In 2007, Pierce County Parks worked with the South Hill community to determine potential uses for the site. Later that year, the Meridian Habitat Park Master Plan was developed. In 2015, the Master Plan was revisited and the site plan updated. Since then, Pierce County Parks has constructed the Great Lawn with a 1/4-mile walking loop and space for community events, a nature-themed playground, an off-leash dog park and an entry plaza. In 2019, Pierce County Parks, in partnership with the 1% for Arts program, installed a soaring metal sculpture which mimics native grasses to welcome visitors to the park.
