Films on Caregiving: MISS YOU ALREADY

Saturday, October 13, 2018

Two women have been best friends forever. They've shared everything since they were kids - secrets, clothes, laughs, substances, boyfriends. Now their friendship is maturing. One has a great job and lives in a wonderful townhouse with her husband and their two kids. The other has a less glamorous job and lives with her boyfriend on a unique houseboat on canal in London. Their friendship is rock solid. Until major hurdles strike and they come to terms with their own issues as well as extending care to their best friend. (Rated PG-13 for thematic content, sexual material and some language)

Relationships Change when Caregiving Needs Begin

Friendships can be special throughout life.  When childhood friendships continue into adulthood, they continue to evolve, sometimes extending tremendous support and encouragement and even growing into caregiving.  Not all caregivers are family.  Many caregivers are friends and neighbors close by or far away.

Pierce County Aging & Disability Resources is offering another film in our caregiving series.  “Miss You Already” will show on Saturday, October 13.  Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and the film begins at 10:45 a.m. at the Grand Cinema, 606 Fawcett Avenue in Tacoma.  Complimentary popcorn will be provided by Advanced Healthcare.  The film is free but tickets much be obtained in advance at www.PierceADRC.org (Click on News & Events) or by calling the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) at 253-798-4600.

“There is nothing more special than a lasting friendship” said Aaron Van Valkenburg, manager of Pierce County Aging and Disability Resources.  “They can support us through thick and thin.  Deep, lasting friendships are vital when the need for caregiving arises.  While family is important, drawing on the support of close friends can complement the assistance that others are able to provide.  “Miss You Already” definitely shows how important friends are in offering care.”

Pierce County Aging & Disability Resources offers this film as part of our Family Caregiver Support Program.  The program helps unpaid family caregivers with a variety of supports including education, counseling, adaptive equipment, housework and errands services and respite care.  The program offers support to families of all incomes.  People can learn more about the program by calling the ADRC at 253-798-4600.
