MAC & TSOA: Options for Care at Home

Monday, November 2, 2020

With all that’s happening these days, supporting those living at home is more important than ever. Tailored Services for Older Adults (TSOA) provides an alternative to regular Medicaid services for people who need assistance to maintain independence. Medicaid Alternative Care (MAC) provides services to unpaid caregivers, designed to assist them in providing quality care to family members while also improving their own well-being. Presenting will be Kelsie Mojean, Case Manager with the Pierce County Aging & Disability Resource Center.

New Supports for Caregivers at Home

In so many ways, health care in the United States today relies on in-home caregivers to keep people safe, healthy and secure.  Caregivers are critical partners in the plan of care for family members and friends with chronic conditions and in need of long-term care and support.

MAC/TSOA are two new Medicaid programs. TSOA and MAC provide free services to unpaid caregivers who are taking care of family members who are at least 55 years old.  Both are part of the Medicaid transformation project demonstration, an agreement with the federal government which allows the testing of new and innovative approaches to providing care.

Pierce County Aging and Disability Resources will host a one-hour workshop for providers and professionals to present an overview of the two programs including participant Q&A.  The live workshop will be offered twice in November, both online and by telephone:
