A statement from Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy

I join our community in extending heartfelt condolences to the Tacoma Police Department and the City of Tacoma as they mourn the loss of Officer Jake Gutierrez. We also offer our deep appreciation to Officer Gutierrez’s family for his swift and selfless work to protect innocent lives caught in a tragic situation.

In Pierce County we know too well how the loss of one of our law enforcement officers impacts everyone in the work family. Sadly, this week marks the seventh anniversary of the loss of four of our Sheriff’s Deputies.  The Lakewood Four remain in our hearts forever, as will Deputy Kent Mundell, who also lost his life in 2009.

Godspeed to the men and women of the TPD, the City of Tacoma and to the family of Officer Gutierrez.
