[ARCHIVED] Pierce County Council Adopts COVID-19 Emergency Small Business Relief Loan Program

The Pierce County Council enacted the COVID-19 Emergency Small Business Relief Loan Program on March 24, 2020, a direct action to keep businesses located in unincorporated Pierce County in operation and protect jobs threatened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Loan amounts up to $10,000 will be awarded, based on number of employees. Loans will be offered to qualified applicants at no interest and no payments for the first year.

"Pierce County businesses have been hit hard by actions necessary and mandated to protect the public and limit the spread of COVID-19,” said Pierce County Economic Development Directory Betty Capestany. “This loan program is meant to provide much needed cash to help businesses stay in operation and retain their employees, and is just one piece of the equation that can be leveraged along with SBA Loan funds, Federal Stimulus assistance, and Washington State Employment Security shared funds. Our department is standing ready to assist businesses through the application process and with any other questions related to the outbreak.”

Businesses applying for loans under this program must:

  • Be a business physically located in unincorporated Pierce County
  • Have 10 or fewer employees (including business owner)
  • Be in operation for one or more years
  • Demonstrate at least a 25% reduction in revenues attributable to the COVID-19 pandemic

Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, subject to available funds.
