The intersection at 176th Street East and 22nd Avenue East in Frederickson will close for construction at 9 p.m. Friday, May 3 and reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, May 6.
Crews will excavate the existing roadway, place crushed rock, and pave the intersection.
Local businesses will remain open during construction. A detour route will be in effect during the closure. A detour map is available at www.piercecountywa.org/fredericksonarea’.
Part of larger projectThe work is part of a larger project on 176th Street East from 14th Avenue East to Waller Road East that will improve safety and reduce traffic congestion. Crews will expand the roadway to four lanes, add concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks, install new street lighting, improve the traffic signals at 14th Avenue East and 22nd Avenue East, and add an enclosed stormwater drainage treatment system.
Utility companies began upgrading and relocating facilities in October 2012. Construction resumed in March following a partial winter weather suspension, and is expected to last through the summer. The project is expected to be physically completed this fall.
Tucci and Sons, Inc. is the contractor. The anticipated construction cost is approximately $7 million.
