Behavioral Health ordinance fails
I am writing to let you know that Ordinance 2016-57s, the one tenth of one percent for behavioral health, did not pass. The vote was 4-3 and a supermajority of five was need to pass.
This vote against the tax is unacceptable and I am mad. We have failed to care for some of our most vulnerable citizens and as a Council to make a tough but right decision. As a co-sponsor of this ordinance I had hoped the County would be able to begin tackling behavioral health in Pierce County.
I will continue to fight for this tax and as a Council we will regroup and figure out in the New Year how to prioritize behavioral health. This is not over.
