Memorial Day

May 2015

May is a time for reflection and honoring those who have sacrificed everything for our country’s freedom. Our men and women who wear the uniform and have served our country faithfully deserve our thanks, and so do their families that stand and serve alongside their military member. Please take the time to rest and reflect. I have listed a few Memorial Day events below for your information.

The U.S. Open Championship is just around the corner, from June 15th through the 19th, and Pierce County and surrounding cities are preparing for the world-class golf event. As host of the 2015 U.S. Open, Chambers Bay will test some of the greatest golfers in the world, and as one of the top public courses in Washington it’s an experience you can enjoy again and again! For more information, please visit www.chambersbaygolf.com.

In this issue you will find information on Harvest Pierce County's annual Spring Summit where you can learn about sustainable living and have a free lunch. Also, Pierce County’s Aging and Disability Resources group is hosting a class on travel. Maybe you would enjoy attending the Puget Sound Family Fun Day? There are several other suggestions for free family outings and let’s not forget to honor mom on Sunday, May 10th!

Please remember, if there is anything in Pierce County government that I can assist you with or if you would like to share your concerns and ideas, my staff and I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm Regards,

Joyce

Leisure travel is becoming increasingly accessible to people with disabilities and older adults.  People can take safe, relaxing vacations anywhere in the world, but, as with any trip, planning is the key.

AAA Travel and Pierce County Aging & Disability Resources have partnered to present “Planning for Safe Travels.”  The free workshops will be offered three times in May.

  • Friday, May 8 (12:10 to 12:50 p.m.) Pierce County Annex main meeting room, 2401 S. 35th St. in Tacoma
